Stoke City are interested in securing the services of Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet next summer. According to recent reports, the Potters are set to battle it out with Newcastle United, Celtic, Napoli, Southampton and Burnley in pursuit of the Belgian keeper when the summer transfer window opens at the end of the season. Some sources have recently revealed that the 29-year-old keeper is bracing himself for an Anfield exit this summer and he has changed his agent in an effort to force a transfer out of the Merseyside club.
Mignolet has not featured in a single game for the Reds since January and it is understood that he is growing increasingly frustrated with the lack of game time under Jurgen Klopp this year. It is expected that the ex Sunderland keeper won’t be short on options if he decides to make a switch in search of greener pastures, with Napoli currently leading the chase to make a swoop for him at the end of the season.
The Belgian has made some costly errors during the course of this campaign which has seen him get demoted to the bench and now, a summer move seems highly likely with the Potters ready to pounce on his services. The 29-year-old has played in 22 matches for the Reds this season and has conceded 30 goals while keeping 7 clean sheets across all competitions. He will undoubtedly bolster Stoke City’s goalkeeping options if they are able to lure him to the bet365 Stadium in the off-season.
The Potters are currently occupying the 19th place in the Premier League standings, just three points away from safety. Paul Lambert’s side suffered a bitter 2-1 home defeat against Everton last weekend. However, the Staffordshire club are still in with a chance to save themselves going into the final stretch of the season.
The addition of Mignolet this summer will definitely strengthen Lambert’s squad ahead of the new campaign. The Belgian keeper has a wealth of experience in English football from his time at Sunderland and now, with Liverpool. At 30, he still has his peak years ahead of him which the Potters could look to utilise in the coming years.
Mignolet will also benefit from a move this summer as he can reignite his form by playing regular first-team football elsewhere. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Mignolet and whether he ends up making a move to the bet365 Stadium in the near future.
