Leeds United boasts of having a handful number of blossoming youngsters in their Academy. The likes of Jake Clarke, Bobby Kamwa, Bryce Hosanna, Will Huffer and Kun Temenuzhkov are some of the notable ones who have shown immense calibre and potential and are seemingly likely to make it big in the near future owing to the developmental process they have inked so far.
Earlier this week, the Whites rewarded their Academy prospect, Kamwa, with a professional deal with the club which was signed by the starlet. The midfielder gave his consent to a two-and-a-half-year deal running until June 2020. He became the latest Academy player to put his signature on the dotted line following Salter and Clarke Odour. This is indeed a shrewd move by the club.
Leeds United have had a stuttering season in the Championship, having managed to collect 50 points from 38 league games. They are currently placed at the 14th spot in the Championship table and promotion to the Premier League seems to be a distant dream now. Paul Heckingbottom needs to be astute in the summer transfer window to beef up his squad in order to mount a serious challenge for promotion next season.
However, the future prospects of the club are also required to be given due attention and Kamwa has shown that he has the ingredients to excel. He is an important member of Leeds United’s Under-18 side and under the tutelage of Mark Jackson, he was a standout performer during his side’s successful run in the youth tournament which was held in Qatar at the Aspire Academy.
Leeds United’s Under-18 side contested against Chinese outfit, Shandong Luneng and Cypriot side, APOEL in the tri-series and Kamwa was picked from the Leeds United’s Under-18 squad as the player of the tournament. Besides, he has also helped his side in the Professional Developmental League this season. The first professional contract that he has received is a reward for his toil and productivity and he thoroughly deserves it.
The 18-year-old is a central midfielder who isn’t shy of galloping forward to find the back of the net on a regular basis. He has found the back of the net on eight occasions this season and no wonder why he is so highly rated. By no means is he a finished product but under due care and diligence, he can make his presence felt in the coming seasons and it would be intriguing to see when he is called up to cater to the needs of the senior side.
