A report on the FA’s official website has confirmed that Aston Villa have finally completed a deal to sign America’s teenage sensation, Indiana Vassilev. Vassilev joined Aston Villa on trial earlier this season and has featured sporadically for the club’s youth team. Besides, he has impressed the scouts of the club and thus, Aston Villa have filed the documents of a permanent written contract.
Under the tutelage of Steve Bruce, the Villans have chiselled a strong season in the Championship. They are currently placed at the 4th spot in the league standings, having collected 69 points to their name from 38 games. It would certainly take herculean efforts from Bruce’s troops to pave their way to the automatic promotion spots but they are seemingly likely to make it to the play-offs.
Bruce is apparently trying to ensure that the club has an adequate amount of starlets in their arsenal to meet the needs in the near future. Vassilev was a key member of the USA Under-17 side which made it to the quarter-finals of the Under-17 World Cup last year which was held in India. The USA were knocked out by England, who were eventually the winners. He is a blossoming talent and there is no denying that.
The 17-year-old is a cunning teenager and has inked a remarkable rise is his developmental process. He is a technically sound player who is comfortable enough to ply his trade anywhere in the midfield and is capable enough to gallop forward to help his teammates in the attacking endeavours as well. Vassilev prefers to play free-flowing silky football and has an exceptional skill of reading the game meticulously.
He has stepped up into the Under-18 side and is unarguably one of the hottest properties in USA’s youth set-up. Vassilev is an astute passer of the ball, has a decent physicality and is quite good in the air. Besides, he receives the ball well, keeps things nice and tidy in the middle of the park and has showcased immense leadership qualities as well.
Aston Villa have added another dazzling prospect to their youth academy in the shape of Vassilev. The Lions have a jam-packed midfield unit and it goes without saying that he needs to work really hard to make it to the first-team squad. However, the calibre he has shown has been exemplary and if he manages to keep up the good work, he can follow the likes of Andre Green into Bruce’s first-team.
