A few days ago, Birmingham City were heavily linked with Leeds United’s attacking midfielder, Pablo Hernandez, as per one of the latest reports by Birmingham Live. The Blues were perceived to the desirous to make Hernandez sign on the dotted line in the summer, and there was a substantial amount of meltdown among the Leeds United faithful.
However, the Yorkshire based outfit would be ecstatic now as Inside Fulbol has stated that Garry Monk is yet to pencil his targets for their summer transfer window. Birmingham City are very much involved in the battle of relegation in the Championship as they are placed at the 22nd spot in the league table with just 33 points to their name after 38 games.
Monk’s current aim is to ensure the survival of his side in the English second division and to ensure that Hernandez stays at the Elland Road beyond the ongoing campaign, the Whites have opened talks with the midfielder over a new deal, as per one of the latest reports by Yorkshire Evening Post. His contract is set to expire in June and Paul Heckingbottom wants to have Hernandez in his ranks in the summer.
The Spaniard has been one of the few players who have excelled in what has been a tumultuous season for the Whites. In 34 appearances in the Championship, Hernandez has plundered 5 goals and has also registered 7 assists to his name and his overall contributions to the club have been noteworthy. There is no denying that he has been a dazzling player for them after his move from Al-Arabi in the summer of 2016.
Hernandez is a really clever player who offers a lot of attacking prowess in the final third for his employers. He is good at holding the ball, unites the team up front with his passes and vision and tests oppositions’ goalkeepers on a regular basis by shooting from considerable distances as well as from close quarters. Besides, he is a set-piece specialist too.
Leeds United have relied heavily on the Spaniard to chalk productive outputs offensively and he has churned decent results more often than not. He can operate from either wing as well as from the central attacking midfield’s role and is also an astute crosser of the ball. Next season, the Peacocks are expected to aim for promotion to the Premier League and Hernandez would be an instrumental player for them to meet their needs. Evidently, Birmingham City’s disinterest in their astute attacker is the best piece of news that has come Leeds United’s way in a long time.
