With a lead of six points at the top of the Championship points table, with just 8 games of the season left, Wolverhampton Wanderers are well on their way to lifting the league title and playing in the Premier League next season. Nuno Espirito Santo has an exciting squad at his disposal but will need to make a number of additions to the first team, to be able to compete with the best next season.
There are a number of star players that the Wolves are looking to sign this summer but they will also have to keep an eye on players in the squad, who might be attracting interests from elsewhere. The manager is already looking to extend contracts of star players and the club and one player who feels he deserves an extension is Aaron Collins.
A product of the Newport Academy, the 20-year old moved to Wolves in 2016 and is into his fourth loan stint at the club. He was loaned back to his boyhood club Newport at the start of the year and Collins has only broken into the first team recently.
Newport’s league tie against Luton saw Collins make his first start for the League Two and his performance in that game saw him win the man of the match award, which showed his ability at such a young age.
He has already represented the Welsh U19 side and is regarded as one of the most exciting prospects in the domestic circuit in his country. At just 20, Collins has already played for five different English sides but is yet to make a senior appearance at the Molineux Stadium in his career.
However, he is excited about playing for Santo’s side in the top flight and has recently opened up about his contract situation with the Wolves. Speaking the media, he revealed that he is happy that Wolves are showing patience in him and he wants to extend his stay at the club beyond the end of his current contract.
Collins is out of a contract at Molineux at the end of the season but his parent club have an option to extend his deal by a year and Collins feels that he deserves that extension.
“This is a great chance to prove that I should be playing and hopefully I go into the next nine games, do what I can do and we’ll see if Wolves reward me with an extra year,” he said, speaking to the media after the Luton game.
He is an undeniable talent and Wolves should surely sign him up for another year at least.
