Tottenham Hotspur are interested in securing the services of Red Bull Salzburg striker Dimitri Oberlin next summer. According to recent reports, Spurs are in hot pursuit of the Swiss ace who has been in sensational form while on loan at FC Basel this season. The 20-year-old has put in some dazzling displays for the Swiss giants during the course of this campaign which has not gone unnoticed as Mauricio Pochettino’s side are waiting to pounce on his signature this summer.
The North Londoners are looking for reinforcements in the summer and could opt for the talented youngster as Pochettino looks to build for a bigger and brighter future. Some sources have recently claimed that Spurs are looking to recruit Oberlin, who has scored 9 goals and provided one assist in 31 matches for FC Basel this season across all competitions.
The Swiss starlet came through the youth ranks of FC Zurich before signing for Red Bull Salzburg in the summer of 2015. He has also represented Switzerland at various youth levels but is yet to feature for the senior team. At 20, he has massive potential which Spurs could look to utilise in the coming years if they are successful in bringing him in North London.
The North London team are keeping their fingers crossed in the hope of finishing in the top 4 so that they can ensure Champions League football for another season. They managed to bag a comfortable 4-1 victory at the Vitality Stadium courtesy of a Heung-Min Son brace and a goal each from Dele Alli and Serge Aurier versus Bournemouth in their last league encounter.
However, Spurs are still 20 points behind the top-flight leaders Manchester City and are in dire need to bring in some new players in order to bridge the gap between themselves and their top 4 rivals in the coming years. The addition of Oberlin will undoubtedly bolster Pochettino’s attacking options ahead of the new campaign. He has the potential to become a Premier League star and will be a perfect fit for Mauricio Pochettino’s style of play at Spurs.
Oberlin is highly versatile and can play in a number of different positions across the frontline. He primarily operates as a centre-forward but can also be deployed on the left flank which makes him an ideal asset for any of his potential suitors. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Oberlin and whether he ends up plying his trade in North London.
