Manchester United and Chelsea are ready to intensify their pursuit of Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers. Journalist Pete O’Rourke reported this on the Transfer Insider podcast for Football Insider. The report suggests interested clubs will not back away despite Villa’s desire to keep the 23-year-old.
Man United and Chelsea Eye £100m Move for Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers
O’Rourke claims most top Premier League sides would chase Rogers if a transfer became realistic. Villa currently face a difficult season. They want to sell peripheral players before they even consider losing Rogers. O’Rourke reveals that the Birmingham club value the midfielder at over £100 million. Rogers holds a long-term contract until June 2031, which he signed in November 2025. Even so, the price tag might not stop Europe’s elite. Clubs offering Champions League football can easily tempt players who want to compete at the highest level.
“Most of the Premier League’s top sides will be interested in Rogers if there was any possibility that he could be lured away.
“We know that Villa have had issues over the last couple of seasons. Rogers is still a key man for Unai Emery, and they would probably look to offload other players first.
“His price tag will be pretty hefty, it’ll be well in excess of £100million probably if somebody wanted to sign him, because he’s under a long-term contract until 2031.
“But even with that price tag, it won’t scare people off. Some of the big clubs in the Premier League and across Europe will be ready to test Villa’s resolve in the summer.
“Maybe if they have Champions League football to offer and Villa can’t offer that, top players like Rogers will want to play at the highest level possible.
“Clubs will be hoping there might be an opening of the door for a potential move away.”
Can Aston Villa Keep Rogers This Summer?

The real question is about Villa’s trajectory. Can they compete with the promises of Manchester United or Chelsea? Villa currently sit third in the Premier League. They have reached the Europa League round of 16. While this shows a solid season, it lacks the Champions League status that kept stars at the club during the 2024-25 cycle. Rogers starred in the Champions League last season, famously scoring a hat-trick against Celtic. Playing in the Europa League feels like a step down.
Meanwhile, Rogers has delivered 8 goals and 5 assists in the Premier League this season. He is Villa’s top scorer with 10 goals across all competitions, and these stats prove his quality. He is no one-season wonder. Aston Villa showed their ambition by giving him a six-year deal last November, and fans should value that commitment.
However, Aston Villa supporters face a tough reality. Manchester United still have a massive global pull despite their recent struggles. Chelsea remain incredibly aggressive in the transfer market. Still, they offer a platform Rogers might find hard to ignore if Villa miss the top tier in 2026-27. Villa have a strong contract, but their sporting position is fragile. In the modern market, the bigger club usually win.
