West Ham Veteran Reveals Everton Wanted To Sign Him: Was David Moyes Right?

Łukasz Fabiański recently shared that Everton tried to sign him during the last summer transfer window. Speaking with the Polish site WP SportoweFakty, as relayed by Sport Witness, the keeper explained how the Merseyside club reached out. This happened right after West Ham originally let him go. He was a free agent for a short time before going back to the Hammers in September 2025. During that gap, David Moyes called him with a real offer.

Fabiański Reveals Everton Interest After Leaving West Ham

Everton saw the former Polish keeper as a perfect backup for Jordan Pickford. Moyes mainly liked the fact that they had worked well together before at the London Stadium. Fabiański played 153 games under the Scottish manager. So, he looked like a safe, low-risk choice for a team that needed a steady second option.

The keeper also mentioned that his old club Legia Warsaw showed interest. But he decided to stay in London to keep things stable for his family. He admitted he first planned to retire after last season. The way things changed over the summer convinced him to keep playing instead.

“I had several offers, from Everton for a second-choice goalkeeper, and there was an enquiry from Legia, and I had various conversations. However, my family and I decided we didn’t want to move. I remember a conversation last season with my family and people at West Ham. I assumed I’d play one more season and then say goodbye. Last summer changed my mind somewhat.”

“We have different priorities now. January was very busy for us in terms of transfer activity. We have to wait until the very end of the season, then we’ll have a better idea of where we’re going.”

Even with that change of heart, things have stayed quiet under Nuno Espírito Santo. He hasn’t played yet because of an injury from September. His contract ends this June. He’s staying patient about what comes next while the club deal with other priorities.

Should Everton Use a Pro or a Young Prospect?

David Moyes has steadied the ship at Everton. The team are now pushing for a top-half finish at their new Hill Dickinson Stadium. Jordan Pickford is still the clear number one for both his club and England. Still, the news about wanting Fabiański shows the team really want an older leader in the squad.

At 40, the former Poland star brings a lot of calm, which is something younger backups often lack. But his recent injuries suggest Everton made the right call by not signing an ageing player.

Looking at things now, the Toffees have a choice to make. They have to decide if a safe pair of hands like Fabiański is better than bringing through a younger player who can push Pickford. Moyes relies a lot on defensive shape and players he knows. He likely saw the Pole as a coach on the pitch rather than just a sub.

Fabiański has spent almost the whole season injured at West Ham. So, Everton fans might be glad the move never fell through. Moving forward, the scouts should probably stop looking for old reunions. Instead, they should find a keeper in their mid-twenties. A player like that would give them a reliable option now and more value down the road.
