Manchester United Identify This Aston Villa Midfielder As A Target: Good Signing For Carrick?

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, journalist Pete O’Rourke claimed that Manchester United have identified Aston Villa midfielder Amadou Onana. O’Rourke said,

“We know the central midfield position is going to be a priority for Man United this summer.

“Casemiro is leaving at the end of season. There’s doubts over Ugarte’s future as well.

“So look, they’re going to need strengthening in that midfield position.

“Onana is a player that they’ve had previous interest in. So I think it’s one of those where he probably still remains on the list, but he’s probably not at the top of it.”

Onana’s Impressive Form In English Football

Onana is having a solid campaign at the West Midlands club as he has put in a string of impressive displays for them at the centre of the park. The 24-year-old has scored two goals in 25 matches for Aston Villa this season across multiple competitions.

The Belgian talent has proven his worth as a reliable performer in the Premier League, so it makes sense for the Red Devils to move in for him next summer.

His current contract at Villa Park will expire in the summer of 2029. Hence, it won’t be easy for the Red Devils to sign him on the cheap later this year.

Will Onana Be A Good Signing For Manchester United Boss Michael Carrick?

Onana loves a tackle and can time his challenges well to secure the ball back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t mind clearing his lines when required and is a good passer of the ball as well.

The Belgian sensation is primarily a holding midfielder but can also function as a box-to-box midfielder if required. He has got a wealth of experience in the Premier League and is well-equipped to make a smooth transition to life at Man United.

Onana would add more energy and dynamism to Michael Carrick’s midfield. He is good enough to challenge for a regular first-team spot at Old Trafford.

At 24, Onana has got his peak years ahead of him, which makes him a decent signing for the Red Devils to pursue this summer. He might even help the Mancunian club compete across all fronts in the coming years. Therefore, Carrick should focus on getting a deal done for Onana soon.
