Leeds United Target Is Pushing To Leave His Current Club: How Farke Can Convince Him?

James Trafford reportedly wants out of Manchester City for good this summer. He’s had a tough time sitting on the bench at the Etihad. According to former Manchester United scout Mick Brown, the young keeper used his latest post-match interview to tell the higher-ups he wants a move. He signalled his intent after playing a bit-part role behind Gianluigi Donnarumma.

James Trafford Pushes for Man City Exit as Leeds Eye a Move

The Premier League giants have blocked a mid-season move back in January. But Trafford’s recent public comments about being unhappy have forced the club’s hand for the next window. The report says Trafford originally went back to his boyhood club expecting to be the main man. Then, Paris Saint-Germain suddenly made Donnarumma available, and Trafford ended up stuck on the bench.

“Trafford is definitely looking to leave Man City,” Brown told Football Insider.

“He was convinced to go back to Man City, where he started off, after going away and developing his game, and it looked like a good move.

“All of a sudden, Donnarumma became available, and you can’t blame City for going after one of the best goalkeepers in the world because it’s not often you get that choice.

“Trafford then is pushed to being their number two without even doing anything, and he’s now made it clear that was not part of the plan.

“He wanted to go back to City and prove himself at the top level, play every week, get into the England squad and all of that sort of thing.

“He’s a top-class goalkeeper and he’s proved that, but now his career is being stalled by City and it looks to me like he is forcing his way out.

“There’s going to be no shortage of interest in him if he does become available; the issue he has now is whether City are willing to let him go.”

Can Leeds United secure the England star?

At 23 years old, James Trafford is at a massive turning point in his career. He needs to start every week if he wants to stay in the England national team conversation. The goalkeeping situation at Leeds United is still a mess. It’s been a rocky season for them in the Premier League, and Leeds have been looking for Trafford.

The Whites signed Lucas Perri from Lyon, but the Brazilian hasn’t found his rhythm. So, Daniel Farke has turned to veteran Karl Darlow lately. This opening is something Trafford could walk right into. He has the footwork and the shot-stopping skills that made him worth £27 million back when he was at Burnley.

Getting a player this good won’t be easy or cheap. Newcastle United and West Ham are also keeping tabs on him. Leeds must promise Trafford the starting spot. They also need to show him a plan that helps him become England’s top choice.

The competition is tough, but Elland Road offers something special. It’s a place where a hungry young keeper can be the face of a high-energy team. Leeds United have a real shot here if they prove they need a long-term number one. But they have to act fast. They need to show Trafford that West Yorkshire is the best place for him to get his career back on track.
