In a recent report, Fichajes mentioned that Chelsea are set to rival Real Madrid for AZ Alkmaar midfielder Kees Smit. It has been claimed that the Blues are showing interest in bringing the Dutch talent to Stamford Bridge this summer.
Smit’s Impressive Form In Dutch Football
Smit is having a decent campaign at the Dutch club as he has put in a string of impressive performances for them at the centre of the park. The 20-year-old has registered three goals and earned five assists in 31 matches for AZ Alkmaar this season across all fronts.
The Dutch sensation is currently among the best young midfielders in the Dutch Eredivisie. Hence, it is no wonder that the Blues are eyeing a move to sign him this summer.
His current contract at AZ Alkmaar will run out in the summer of 2028, which could make it tough for Chelsea to land him on the cheap later this year.

Should Chelsea Boss Liam Rosenior Snap Smit Up?
Smit doesn’t mind working hard for his team defensively at the centre of the park. He can shoot the ball well from long range and has got the vision to create some decent chances in the final third.
The Dutch sensation is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet. Smit is primarily a box-to-box midfielder but can also serve as a defensive midfielder or as an attacking midfielder if asked to do so. However, it remains to be seen whether he can adapt to the physical style and high intensity of the Premier League if the Blues manage to get a deal done for him this summer.
We can expect Smit to enhance the quality of Chelsea head coach Liam Rosemior’s midfield department in the long run. He is good enough to challenge for a regular first-team spot at the West London club in the coming years.
At 20, the future looks quite bright for Smit as long as he continues to improve with each season. He might even help the Blues challenge for some major honours over the next decade. Hence, Rosenior would be wise to try everything in his power to snap him up at the end of this campaign.
