Tottenham Hotspur To Rival Aston Villa For This La Liga Star: A Good Option For Frank?

In a recent report, Football.London mentioned that Tottenham Hotspur have reignited their interest in Atletico Madrid star Conor Gallagher. It has been claimed that Spurs are eyeing a move to bring the English midfielder to North London, but are facing competition from Aston Villa in pursuit of him this January.

Gallagher’s Decent Form In Spanish Football

Gallagher is having another solid campaign at the Madrid club as he has put in a run of impressive displays for them at the centre of the park. The 25-year-old has found the back of the net three times and earned one assist in 27 matches for Atletico Madrid this season across all fronts.

The 25-year-old has anchored the midfield relatively well after making 17 tackles, 11 blocks, 11 interceptions and eight clearances in La Liga. He has even been accurate when distributing possession from midfield based on his pass completion rate of 87.4% in top-flight football (stats via fbref.com).

Gallagher is under contract at the Wanda Metropolitano until the summer of 2029, which could make it difficult for Tottenham to sign him on the cheap this month.

Will Gallagher Be A Good Option For Tottenham Hotspur Boss Thomas Frank?

Gallagher is a solid tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to earn the ball back for his team inside his half. He usually puts his foot through the ball when needed and is a tidy passer of the ball as well.

The English sensation can strike the ball with power from long range and is an energetic presence in the middle of the park. He is already quite familiar with the Premier League and won’t take much time to adjust to life at Tottenham.

Gallagher would bring more quality and depth to Spurs boss Thomas Frank’s midfield department. He is good enough to nail down a regular first-team spot at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

At 25, Gallagher has his peak years ahead of him, which makes him a great option for the North London club to consider this January or at the end of this campaign. He might even help Tottenham compete for a major trophy in the coming years. Thus, Frank should focus on stepping up his efforts to sign him.
