In a recent report, The Northern Echo claimed that Sunderland are in talks to land Bayer 04 Leverkusen keeper Jonas Omlin, who is currently playing on loan from Borussia Monchengladbach. It is understood that the Black Cats are showing interest in recruiting the Swiss custodian.
Omlin’s Recent Form In German Football
Omlin has struggled to find consistency for Borussia Monchengladbach recently, but has managed to shine at times for them in the Bundesliga. The Swiss talent has conceded 63 goals and earned seven clean sheets in 36 appearances for the German club thus far across all fronts.
The 32-year-old is currently among the most experienced goalkeepers in the Bundesliga. Hence, Sunderland would do well to lure him to the Stadium of Light this year.
Omlin is under contract at his parent club, Borussia Monchengladbach, until the end of next season. Thus, the Black Cats could potentially sign him on the cheap in this summer transfer window.

Should Sunderland Boss Regis Le Bris Get Omlin On Board?
Omlin can be a safe pair of hands in between the sticks for his team when he is playing regularly and with confidence on the field. He can use his quick reflexes to make some important saves at the back and is a solid handler of the ball inside his penalty box.
The Swiss talent has got a wealth of experience in top-flight football. Standing at 1.90m, Omlin can use his strong frame to dominate his penalty area. However, only time will tell whether he can cope with the high intensity of the Premier League if the Black Cats manage to get a deal done for him this summer.
We can expect Omlin to bring more quality and experience to Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris’ backline. He is good enough to serve as an ideal back-up to Robin Roefs at the Wearside club.
At 32, Omlin has still got a few good years left in him to play at his best. Therefore, Le Bris should focus on going all out to bring him to the Stadium of Light this summer. However, he has to give the experienced custodian some time to adjust to life in England before he can get the best out of the player.
