Manchester United Face Competition From Aston Villa For This AC Milan Midfielder: Should Carrick Get Him On Board?

In a recent report, talkSPORT stated that Manchester United are facing stiff competition for AC Milan midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek. It has been mentioned that the Red Devils would have to rival Aston Villa in the race to acquire the services of the English talent this year.

Loftus-Cheek’s Impressive Form In Serie A

Loftus-Cheek has enjoyed a good run of form at the Milan club as he has put in a string of eye-catching displays for them at the centre of the park. The 29-year-old has registered one goal and earned one assist in 23 matches for AC Milan this season across all competitions.

The English talent has caught the eye at times in the middle of the park and deserves credit for averaging 2.59 shots per 90 minutes in Serie A. However, he has only kept 16% of his attempts on target (stats via fbref.com).

His current deal at the San Siro will run out in the summer of 2027, which could open the door for the Red Devils to sign him on the cheap at the end of this campaign.

Should Manchester United Boss Michael Carrick Get Loftus-Cheek On Board?

Loftus-Cheek is full of energy and running at the centre of the park. He can put in a good shift for his team defensively and can strike the ball with power from long range. The English talent has got the eye to play some killer passes in the final third and is a strong runner with the ball.

Loftus-Cheek is primarily a box-to-box midfielder but can also serve as a defensive midfielder or play in the number ten position if required. He is already quite familiar with the Premier League and won’t take much time to settle into life at Man United.

We can expect Loftus-Cheek to bring more energy and dynamism to Michael Carrick’s midfield. He has what it takes to challenge for regular first-team football at Old Trafford.

At 29, Loftus-Cheek is playing in his prime and would be a good addition to Man United’s squad in the short term. Therefore, the Red Devils would be wise to go all out to get him on board in this winter transfer window or at the end of this campaign.
