Everton Forward Offered To European Club: Who Should Replace Him?

Turkish outlet Fotomaç reports that agents have offered Everton striker Beto to Fenerbahçe. The Istanbul club are looking for new options up front this January. The Yellow Canaries are only three points behind league leaders Galatasaray right now. They see this winter window as a major chance to strengthen the team for the title race and their upcoming Europa League games.

Agents reached out to the Turkish side about the 27-year-old, knowing he hasn’t seen much game time at Goodison Park. Fenerbahçe liked Beto in the past, but the money didn’t work out in previous windows. Since the striker is barely playing for Merseyside lately, a move seems much more likely now.

The final call belongs to Fenerbahçe manager Domenico Tedesco. The 40-year-old coach took over from Jose Mourinho earlier this season but hasn’t really started picking his own players yet. Tedesco needs to figure out if the Portuguese forward actually suits his tactics before the club make a real offer.

Back in England, Beto’s value has dropped quite a bit under David Moyes. Ever since Thierno Barry arrived last summer, the French youngster has locked down the starting spot. That has left Beto with only eight Premier League starts all season. Even though his contract runs until June 2027, his lack of playing time suggests Everton would be happy to move the Guinea-Bissau man on and get his wages off the books.

Selling Beto makes a lot of sense for Everton, as long as the price is right. The club can’t really afford to have high-earners sitting on the bench, especially with Thierno Barry playing so well.

David Moyes wants players with high energy who can finish their chances. While Beto is a physical threat, he has been too hot and cold for the Everton fans. If Fenerbahçe pay a good chunk of his salary or a decent transfer fee, letting him go would help the Toffees spend that money elsewhere.

Still, Everton cannot let a senior striker go in the middle of the season without a backup plan. The club would need someone who is okay with being a sub but can still change a game when they come on.

Looking at the market, Troy Parrott at AZ Alkmaar is an interesting option. The Irish international has come a long way in the Eredivisie, scoring more goals and linking up better with his teammates. Moyes would love his work rate, and he wouldn’t be as expensive as other big-name targets.

Santiago Castro from Bologna is another choice who brings something totally different. He has a low centre of gravity and is great with the ball at his feet, which would give Moyes a “Plan B” compared to Barry’s strength in the air. Bringing in either player would keep the squad depth strong while actually improving the quality of the Everton attack.
