Chelsea Have Set Their Sights On This Barcelona Playmaker: Good Choice For Rosenior?

In a recent report, Fichajes mentioned that Chelsea have set their sights on Barcelona playmaker Fermin Lopez. It has been stated that the Blues are eyeing a move to bring the Spanish talent to Stamford Bridge this year.

Lopez’s Impressive Form In La Liga

Lopez has enjoyed a good run of form at the Catalan club and deserves credit for putting in a run of eye-catching performances for them in La Liga. The 22-year-old has scored eight goals and grabbed nine assists in 21 matches for Barcelona this season across multiple competitions.

The Spanish talent has proven his worth in the final third by averaging 3.63 shots per 90 minutes in La Liga. He has kept 42.9% of his attempts on target. Lopez has even been excellent when distributing possession inside the opponent’s half, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 81.3% in the Spanish top flight (stats via fbref.com).

His current deal at the Nou Camp will run out in the summer of 2029. Hence, it won’t be easy for Chelsea to get a deal done for him on the cheap this year.

Will Lopez Be A Good Choice For Chelsea Boss Liam Rosenior?

Lopez is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make a few driving runs with it out in the wide areas. He has got the vision to engineer some inviting chances for his teammates in the final third and can shoot the ball with venom from long range.

The Spanish talent can contribute by scoring and creating a handful of important goals for his team. Lopez is primarily an attacking midfielder but can also fill in as a box-to-box midfielder or as a left-winger if asked to do so by his manager. However, there are some question marks over whether he can adapt to the physicality and high intensity of the Premier League.

Lopez would no doubt enhance the quality of Chelsea head coach Liam Rosenior’s attack. He is more than capable of earning a regular first-team spot at Stamford Bridge.

At 22, Lopez will only get better with each season. Therefore, he would be a great choice for the Blues to consider in the long run.
