Chelsea Among The Top Clubs Hoping To Land This Ligue 1 Defender: Should Rosenior Go For Him?

Speaking on the Inside Track podcast, journalist Pete O’Rourke stated that Chelsea are among the clubs hoping to land Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet. O’Rourke said, “Rennes right now don’t really want to lose Jacquet midway through the season, they’re doing quite well in Ligue 1 in sixth position.

“He’s under contract until 2029, so it would take a huge offer in this transfer window to even make Rennes consider selling him.

“So I think it’s one of those where Liverpool are monitoring Jacquet, and keeping tabs on him along with all these other top European clubs, but I don’t think anything will happen in January.

“Maybe come the summer, there could be more potential for a move, whether that’s from Liverpool or some of his other suitors, like Chelsea, Arsenal, Real Madrid or Man United.“

Jacquet’s Impressive Form In Ligue 1

Jacquet is having a solid campaign at the French club as he has put in a run of eye-catching displays for them in Ligue 1. The 20-year-old has made 17 appearances for Rennes this season in all competitions.

The French defender has proven his worth by making 25 tackles, 24 blocks, 17 interceptions and 80 clearances in Ligue 1. He has even distributed possession accurately from the back after completing 90.8% of his attempted passes in the top tier of French football (stats via fbref.com).

Should Chelsea Boss Liam Rosenior Go For Jacquet?

Jacquet is a tough-tackling defender who can read the danger well to secure the ball back for his team inside his half. He usually clears the danger when needed and can even play his way out from the back.

Standing at 1.90m, the French talent is a strong presence in the air as well. However, only time will tell whether he can make a smooth transition to life in the Premier League if the Blues manage to bring him to England this month.

We can expect Jacquet to bring more bite and steel to Chelsea head coach Liam Rosenior’s defence. He is more than capable of challenging for regular first-team football at Stamford Bridge.

At 20, the future looks quite bright for Jacquet as long as he continues to develop with each season. Therefore, Rosenior would be wise to go for a player of his potential before the end of this January transfer period.
