Barcelona To Compete With Real Madrid To Land Bundesliga Defender: What Will He Bring To The Nou Camp?

In a recent report, Fichajes mentioned that Barcelona are hoping to land Borussia Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeck. It has been claimed that the Catalan club would have to compete with Real Madrid in the race to sign the German centre-back this year.

Schlotterbeck’s Impressive Form In The Bundesliga

Schlotterbeck is having a decent campaign at the German club as he has put in a string of impressive displays for them on the defensive end of the field. The 26-year-old has registered two goals and grabbed two assists in 22 matches for Borussia Dortmund this season across all competitions.

The German talent has proven himself to be a good performer in the Bundesliga. Thus, Barcelona would do well to lure him to the Nou Camp in this January transfer window or next summer.

His current contract at the German club will run out in the summer of 2027. Hence, it won’t be easy for Barcelona to sign him on a cut-price deal this year.

What Will Schlotterbeck Bring To Barcelona?

Schlotterbeck is a solid tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to secure possession back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the offensive.

The German sensation can even use his strong 1.91m frame to dominate the opposition attackers in the air. Schlotterbeck is even proficient at playing his way out from the back. However, there are some concerns over whether he can make a smooth transition to life in La Liga if the Catalan club manage to bring him on board this year.

We can expect Schlotterbeck to bring more bite and steel to Barcelona boss Hansi Flick’s defence. He has what it takes to compete for a regular first-team spot at the Catalan club in the coming seasons.

At 26, Schlotterbeck has his peak years ahead of him, which makes him a good choice for Barcelona to consider this January or at the end of this campaign. With all things considered, Flick would be wise to go all out to bring him on board soon. However, the Catalan giants would have to give him some time to settle into life in Spain.
