Real Madrid Will Have To Pay €60 Million For Dutch Talent: Should Los Blancos Pay That Price?

Recent news from Spanish outlet AS suggests that Real Madrid have a major money problem to solve if they want to sign AZ Alkmaar’s standout talent, Kees Smit. The report mentions that the Dutch club wants somewhere around €60 million for the midfielder.

Real Madrid and their interest in Kees Smit

This high price tag shows just how much they value him as one of the best young players in the Netherlands right now. So, Florentino Pérez and his scouts have to decide if a teenager is worth such a massive payout this early in his career. It doesn’t help that Smit is under contract until 2028. It provides AZ with all the power in any talks about a move.

Even though several big European teams like Manchester United are also watching him closely, Smit is staying calm. He said in a recent interview that he wasn’t in any rush to leave. While the 19-year-old definitely wants to reach the top of the game one day, he is focused on playing well for his current team for now.

“I want to reach the top as quickly as possible. I sometimes talk about it at home. Not all the time, of course.

“But I know I want to have a good season with AZ and then see what happens. The move doesn’t necessarily have to be next year,” he said, attempting to cool expectations.

Any deal will likely come down to whether a buyer is willing to meet that €60 million mark, especially since AZ are under no pressure to sell their best player right away.

Tactical Fit and Financial Risk

From a tactical perspective, the Dutch midfielder offers a mix of class and intelligence that naturally catches the eye of top clubs. On top of that, he has the vision to pick out passes that most players simply don’t see. It helps his team turn defence into attack in an instant.

The Los Blancos could use these skills by putting him in the middle of the pitch to run the show. In that role, the 19-year-old talent could eventually take over the creative work currently handled by the squad’s veteran stars.

What about the price tag?

Still, dropping €60 million on someone coming straight from the Dutch league is a big risk. The main worry is whether he can handle the physical side of La Liga. Smit also needs to improve his defensive contribution if he plans to start regularly in a midfield that expects everyone to work hard against top-tier teams.

The talent is clearly there, but paying such a huge fee feels like a stretch when the squad has other holes to fill right now. The board might see this move as more of a gamble than a sure thing, mostly because they haven’t seen him play at this level for very long.

Unless AZ lower the price, Real Madrid will likely look at other targets or simply watch how he develops for another year before spending that kind of money.
