Real Madrid Are Eyeing A Move For This Ligue 1 Defender: One For The Future?

In a recent report, Fichajes stated that Real Madrid are eyeing a move for Stade Rennais defender Jeremy Jacquet. It has been mentioned that Los Blancos have set their sights on the French centre-back.

Jacquet’s Impressive Form In French Football This Season

The 20-year-old has been a reliable presence at the heart of Rennes’ defence in this campaign so far. Jacquet has featured in 15 matches for the French outfit this season in Ligue 1.

The French talent has been a rock at the back as he has made 23 tackles, 22 blocks, 16 interceptions and 77 clearances in Ligue 1. He has even distributed possession relatively well after completing 90.5% of his attempted passes in the French first division (stats via fbref.com).

His current contract at the French club will expire in the summer of 2029, which could make it difficult for Real Madrid to sign him on the cheap next year.

Real Madrid Are Eyeing A Move For Jacquet: Is He A Prospect For The Future?

Jacquet is a solid tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to secure the ball back for his team inside his half. He usually puts his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the front foot and can use his strong 1.90m frame to dominate the opposition attackers in the air.

However, the French sensation is yet to prove his worth outside his homeland and would need time to adjust to life in La Liga if Los Blancos manage to snap him up next year.

We can expect Jacquet to bring more bite and steel to Real Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso’s defence in the long run. He is already good enough to challenge for regular first-team football at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.

At 20, the future looks quite promising for Jacquet as long as he continues to improve with each season. He is undoubtedly a prospect to watch out for in the future, so Los Blancos would be wise to step up their efforts to land him this January or at the end of this campaign. However, Alonso has to be patient with his development before he can unlock the best out of the defender.
