Manchester United Identify This Nottingham Forest Talent As A Top Target: Should Amorim Go For Him?

In a recent interview with Football Insider, former scout Mick Brown mentioned that Manchester United have identified Nottingham Forest talent Elliot Anderson as a top target. Brown said,

“Semenyo is the one they’ve been looking at.

“United need to spend in January to improve the squad, and he’s somebody they wanted to bring in during the summer before he signed that contract.

“If the opportunity comes up when the window opens, it would make a lot of sense because he would also be able to plug that hole left by Mbeumo.

“You’re looking at people like Semenyo and Elliot Anderson to come in, they’re the top targets for Amorim because both of them would be real improvements in key areas of the squad.

“They’d plug gaps where there might otherwise be problems, add energy and drive to the team, and help United take steps towards being successful again.

“They would need to spend something like £170million on those two players to turn them into a team who can compete for silverware and at the top level.

“Personally, I can’t see that happening, but they are interested in signing both of them and if it can be done in January, then perhaps they will.

“There will be other teams interested too, so it wouldn’t be easy by any stretch of the imagination, but I think they’re both players they need.”

Anderson’s Impressive Form In The Premier League

Anderson is having a solid campaign at the Midlands club as he has produced a series of impressive performances at the centre of their midfield. The 23-year-old has registered one goal and one assist in 18 appearances for Nottingham this season across all competitions.

The English talent has given a good account of himself in the middle of the park and deserves credit for making 36 tackles, 22 blocks, 14 interceptions and 13 clearances in the Premier League. He has even distributed possession accurately from midfield based on his pass success rate of 82.5% in the English top tier (stats via fbref.com).

Should Manchester United Boss Ruben Amorim Go For Anderson?

Anderson is a good tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to secure a ball back for his team inside his half. He usually clears his lines when needed and is a tidy passer of the ball.

The English talent has got a wealth of experience at the highest level and won’t take much time to adjust to life at Man United. We can expect him to bring more quality to Ruben Amorim’s midfield department.

At 23, Anderson has got his peak years ahead of him, which makes him a worthy target for the Red Devils to consider this January or at the end of this campaign. Thus, Amorim would be wise to go for a player of his quality next year.
