Aston Villa are preparing to make a significant move in the January window. According to Dean Jones, the club is pursuing the signing of 17-year-old, highly rated midfielder Nathan De Cat from Anderlecht.
Villa have reportedly identified the Belgian talent as a potential partner for Boubacar Kamara in the coming years. Unai Emery wants to strengthen the midfield structure long-term, and this move matches what he’s trying to build.
Aston Villa are displaying interest in Nathan De Cat
De Cat has played 15 matches in the Jupiler Pro League this season and is also impressive for the Belgian U19 team. His game has been compared to Manchester City’s Rodri, as he displays composed passing and control in the deep-lying playmaker role. Playing regularly in the first team at the age of 17 shows how ready he already looks for senior football.
Although Anderlecht’s official position is that the player will stay until at least 2027, insiders believe a package of around £30 million (€35m) could entice them into negotiations. Aston Villa are preparing an offer of around €22–25 million upfront, plus bonuses and a 10–15% sell-on clause.

Interest from other clubs is also rising. Tottenham Hotspur, led by sporting director Johann Lange, are active. Brighton have made inquiries through intermediaries, while Bayern Munich have maintained contact but are considered unlikely to make an immediate offer unless Premier League clubs step forward.
What’s the way out?
Two transfer models are on the table – either a loan-back until the end of the season with a permanent deal, or a loan with a mandatory purchase clause. Villa would prefer the first option to ensure De Cat’s growth continues in Belgium.
It’s believed that Nathan De Cat could fit into Villa’s long-term strategy. He may not have an immediate impact, but given his talent and vision, the investment could be worth it if Emery is ready to give him time.
