Aston Villa Target’s Contract Talks Stall With His Current Club: Why Will He Be A Good Fit For The Lions?

Reports indicate that negotiations between Crystal Palace and Jean-Philippe Mateta over a new contract have stalled. According to Ekrem Konur, talks are not progressing, which has led to heightened interest in his services. Clubs like Manchester United, Aston Villa, Newcastle, and West Ham United are eyeing a move for the 28-year-old French striker.

Mateta joined Palace from FSV Mainz in January 2021. Initially, it was a loan deal, which the club made permanent in 2022. Since then, his performance has steadily improved.

Last season, he contributed 21 goals and became one of the team’s most reliable players. The Frenchman’s form has also been excellent this season, with nine goals and two assists. His goal-scoring style is direct, powerful, and effective, making him an ideal number 9 for many Premier League teams.

From the perspective of Aston Villa, Mateta’s profile appears to be quite important. The team is playing in a European competition and needs a reliable striker to provide support and competition for Ollie Watkins.

Mateta is an old-style centre-forward: big, strong, dangerous in the air, and adept at holding the ball. Such a player could add a new dimension to Villa’s attack.

Will he be a good signing for the Birmingham club?

Clearly, his presence in the box could keep defenders under pressure and facilitate rotations with Watkins. His consistent Premier League goal scoring shows that he can succeed at this level.

Signing Mateta would be a good move for Villa as they need another reliable goalscorer. The price tag of £40m–£60m may be concerning, and he is 28 years old, but his physical traits and consistent goal-scoring ability could elevate the team. If Villa want to remain at the top level, a striker like Mateta could prove to be a strong addition.
