Souttar And Cornelius Are Major Doubts | Predicted 3-4-3 Rangers Lineup To Face Livingston

After a dreadful few months under Russell Martin, Rangers are finally finding their feet in the Premiership with three successive wins since Danny Rohl’s appointment as the new Ibrox chief. They are still rock-bottom in the Europa League, whereas an extra-time heartbreak against Celtic earlier this month shattered their League Cup dreams. But they have an array of favourable league outings post-international break, starting with the visit of bottom-placed Livingston to Glasgow on Saturday afternoon.

David Martindale earned an immediate promotion, but he must turn things around to avoid another relegation. Livi almost snatched a point at Almondvale, but the injury-time winner from Max Aarons earned Martin his first league victory as Rangers boss. However, he was unable to build on the outcome and was relieved of his duties a week later.

Defence

Jack Butland has been a shining light with some decisive saves, and the veteran Englishman has now further cemented his ‘number 1’ status, securing successive league clean sheets on the road against Hibernian and Dundee.

Rohl tried various set-ups before finding stability in a ‘back three’ formation. Skipper James Tavernier has been converted into a right-sided centre-half, but his flexibility down the right would allow the gaffer to make tactical alterations. Meanwhile, John Souttar and Derek Cornelius sustained injuries while representing Scotland and Canada, respectively. Nasser Djiga and Manny Fernandez would slot in the heart of the backline in case the first-team defensive duo fail to recover ahead of the weekend tie.

Midfield

Rohl has made an interesting adjustment by converting Djeidi Gassama into a right wing-back. The Frenchman should keep his place over Aarons, and so should Jayden Meghoma from the other flank, being the only designated left fullback option. Unlike defence, the Light Blues have ample depth in the centre of the pitch. Nicolas Raskin, a regular for Belgium, has to be the first name in the teamsheet, but the German boss must prefer Connor Barron, who has impressed in limited opportunities. Joe Rothwell, Mohamed Diomande, Thelo Aasgaard and Lyall Cameron could be brought in from the bench, as they would offer different dimensions in midfield.

Attack

Bojan Miovski should get the nod over Youssef Chermiti for the ‘number 9’ spot, as the latter has so far failed to live up to his £10m price tag. Mikey Moore has shown glimpses of his quality of late and is expected to feature from the left. Oliver Antman could be reintegrated, replacing Danilo on the right-hand flank.
