Aston Villa Are Stuck With The Future Of This Flop Player: Why They Might Not Sign Him Permanently?

Aston Villa’s season has carried its share of twists, yet one subplot stays quiet — Jadon Sancho’s slow fade into the background. The English winger joined Villa on loan from Manchester United last summer, hoping to regain his confidence and form after a difficult spell at Old Trafford.

Instead, the move has gone off course. Despite brief moments of energy, Sancho hasn’t delivered the spark Unai Emery expected, and his struggles have raised quiet concern.

Aston Villa can’t send Jadon Sancho back in the middle of the season

Meanwhile, Pete O’Rourke told Football Insider that Sancho will not return to Manchester United in January, despite growing rumours suggesting otherwise. He explained that the loan contract includes no break clause, so Sancho must stay at Villa until the season ends.

The 25-year-old created an awkward moment after the Manchester City game on 26 October when Emery brought him on early in the first half, only to take him off before the final whistle. That incident showed how much Sancho’s confidence has dropped.

While speaking about the English international’s future, the transfer expert said: “I think he will see out the season at Villa.

“I don’t think there is a break clause in that loan deal that would allow him to return to United in January. So it does seem that Jadon Sancho will see out the season at Aston Villa.

“It’s not great that for any player to be brought on as a substitute and then to be taken off as well in the same game [against Man City on 26 October].

“But he has struggled to make an impact in the squad, there’s no getting away from that. We know what Unai Emery demands.”

The English winger has played five games but has scored no goals, provided no assists, and found no rhythm. Villa fans expected more from a winger once known for immense talent and decisiveness. For now, his story remains stuck until summer, when people will again discuss his long-term future.

Should Aston Villa sign him permanently?

Right now, a permanent move looks hard to justify. Sancho might still have the, but he has lost his form under Emery’s strict system. The Spanish manager demands hard work and discipline, and Sancho hasn’t shown the consistency to meet those standards.

Aston Villa, meanwhile, have already set their sights on other transfer targets. Reports say they are ready to pay €40 million for Joel Ordonez, a move that could strengthen their defence. Alongside that, Villa reportedly want to sign Mason Greenwood, who continues to attract Premier League interest. With those plans in place, the club sees little reason to sign Sancho permanently.

Still, the final decision depends on whether he improves before May. If he starts making an impact, Villa might reconsider, though his high wages and uncertain form make that difficult. The club has acted wisely in recent transfer windows and avoided emotional decisions.

They will likely part ways with Sancho in the summer. Manchester United may finally close a disappointing chapter by letting him go. Villa should focus on players who fit Emery’s demanding style and can keep their campaign steady, not on those still searching for confidence.
