21-Year-Old Striker Will Reject A Move To Newcastle United: Can The Magpies Do Without Him?

Newcastle United are in a frustrating position as the season moves forward. Performances swing between promise and struggle, and Eddie Howe keeps searching for stability. The north-east side fights hard in matches but still lacks the needed balance in attack. Injuries have limited their options, and the shortage of depth in key positions shows clearly.

Nick Woltemade stands at the centre of those challenges after joining from Stuttgart in the summer. The young forward handles the pressure well, yet he remains the only fit striker. Meanwhile, reports revealed that Newcastle United won’t sanction the departure of William Osula in January.

Samu Aghehowa will reportedly reject a move to Newcastle United

Yoane Wissa suffered a knee injury soon after he joined, and that setback stretched the squad’s resources. He keeps working on his recovery, but the medical staff have not set a return date. That delay leaves the Magpies vulnerable if Woltemade needs rest or picks up an injury.

The club now focuses on the January transfer window. Officials have started discussions about signing another striker to strengthen the frontline. However, journalist Pete O’Rourke reported that Porto’s Samu Aghehowa will likely reject a move. The 21-year-old forward feels happy at Porto and aims to stay sharp as he pushes for a place in Spain’s World Cup squad.

“Porto are doing well in the Portuguese league right now. They’ll be very reluctant to sell Aghehowa, and I’m sure the player himself is happy with life at Porto right now. He’ll be focusing on doing his best for himself and winning his place in the Spain squad for the World Cup. So I don’t see any move happening in January.

“There’s a lot of interest in Aghehowa, a top young player, still only 21, six-foot-four. He looks like he’s built for the Premier League. He’s got good pace, he’s a good finisher.”

The Magpies don’t need Aghehowa despite his rising value

Porto’s 21-year-old striker Samu Aghehowa plans to reject Newcastle’s offer, leaving the Magpies to rely on current options.

Samu Aghehowa is a promising young Spanish striker known for his strong physical presence, speed, and goal-scoring instincts. The 21-year-old joined Porto from Atlético Madrid in August 2024 and has shown sharp finishing ability with both feet and his head.

Standing at 6’4″, he possesses strength and aerial power with impressive acceleration, making him both a target man and a forward who can attack space behind defenders. His relentless work rate and pressing style also make him a perfect fit for a high-energy system. In his debut season with Porto, the Spaniard scored an impressive 27 goals across all competitions.

Signing Aghehowa would have been a great move for Newcastle, but they can still manage without him, especially given their recent signings and Aghehowa’s stance. His mix of physicality and pace would have added a more direct and dangerous threat to Newcastle’s attack. At just 21, he also represents a long-term investment who could lead Newcastle’s attack for years to come.

On top of that, Aghehowa’s reported €80 million price tag makes the deal too expensive. While Aghehowa’s youth and talent make him an exciting long-term prospect, Newcastle’s summer signings have already covered their attacking needs. Since Aghehowa remains committed to Porto and his valuation stays high, Newcastle can move forward confidently without bringing him in.
