In a recent interview, journalist Pete O’Rourke revealed that Real Madrid have set their sights on Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez. O’Rourke said, “Real Madrid are long-term admirers of Enzo Fernandez.
“They were interested before he did make that move to Chelsea and we know with Real Madrid being constantly linked with players, [it] can maybe turn a player’s head or unsettle them as well.
“I’m sure Real Madrid will continue to keep tabs on Enzo Fernandez. A lot will depend on the player and what he wants to do.
“It seems he’s happy and content with life at Chelsea and Chelsea are happy with Enzo Fernandez who has been playing in a bit more of an attacking role under Enzo Maresca.
“He’s really impressed in that role as well. So given how well, he’s performed for Chelsea with such a long contract in place, I could not imagine that Chelsea would look to sell him unless somebody was able to make an offer well in excess of what Chelsea paid for him.
“Although Real Madrid do seem like they are interested, it seems a difficult deal to do.”
Fernandez’s Impressive Run Of Form In The Premier League
The Argentine talent has made a great start to this campaign as he has put in a string of influential displays for the Blues in the middle of the park. Fernandez has scored three goals and secured one assist in ten appearances for Chelsea this season across multiple competitions.

The 24-year-old has also offered decent protection for his teammates at the back and deserves credit for making 14 tackles, six blocks, four interceptions and three clearances in the Premier League. He has even distributed the ball well from midfield after completing 82.2% of his attempted passes in the English top flight (stats via fbref.com).
Will Fernandez Be A Dream Signing For Real Madrid Boss Xabi Alonso?
Fernandez can do a little bit of everything at the centre of the park and doesn’t mind working hard for his team defensively when needed. He can even chip in by scoring or creating the odd goal from midfield.
The Argentine talent mainly operates as a box-to-box midfielder but can also serve as a holding midfielder or play in the number ten position if told to do so. However, it remains to be seen whether he can make a smooth transition to life in La Liga.
Fernandez would no doubt add more quality to Real Madrid boss Xabi Alonso’s midfield. He is more than capable of securing a regular starting place at the Madrid club.
At 24, Fernandez has his peak years ahead of him, which makes him a dream signing for Los Blancos to consider this January or at the end of this campaign.
