In a recent report, Fichajes claimed that Real Madrid are set to rival Barcelona for Borussia Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeck next year. It has been stated that Los Blancos are showing interest in recruiting the Germany international.
Schlotterbeck’s Impressive Form In German Football
The 25-year-old has made a solid start to this campaign after he put in a series of impressive displays for Dortmund in the Bundesliga. Schlotterbeck has played in eight matches for the German club this season in all competitions.
The German talent has been a rock at the back as he has made nine tackles, four blocks, eight interceptions and 23 clearances in the Bundesliga. He has even distributed the ball accurately from inside his half based on his pass success rate of 87.5% in the German top tier (stats via fbref.com).
His current contract at the Madrid club will run out in the summer of 2027. Hence, Real Madrid could potentially sign him on the cheap at the end of this season.

Will Schlotterbeck Be A Good Choice For Real Madrid Boss Xabi Alonso?
Schlotterbeck is a good tackler of the ball and can read the danger well to earn possession back for his team inside his half. He usually puts his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the offensive and can use his powerful 1.91m frame to win his fair share of aerial duels.
The German sensation is primarily a centre-back but can also fill in as a left-back if told to do so. However, it remains to be seen whether he can make a smooth transition to life in La Liga.
We can expect Schlotterbeck to bring more bite and steel to Real Madrid boss Xabi Alonso’s defence. He is more than capable of securing a regular first-team spot at the Madrid club in the coming years.
At 25, Schlotterbeck has his peak years ahead of him, which makes him a great choice for Los Blancos to pursue this winter or at the end of this campaign. He might even help the Madrid giants compete for some major trophies in the future. Therefore, it makes sense for Alonso to step up his efforts to acquire the services of the German defensive ace next year.
