Miovski Must Start | Predicted 4-2-3-1 Rangers Lineup To Face Kilmarnock

Things won’t change overnight at Rangers, even after dismissing Russell Martin and appointing Danny Rohl as the new head coach. The young German suffered a disappointing 3-0 defeat against Brann in his first game in charge, and it remains to be seen how quickly the players adapt to his philosophy and playing style. Another tricky test awaits the Gers, with in-form Kilmarnock set to travel to Ibrox on Sunday afternoon.

Rangers have only won once so far in the league, but a victory this weekend could see them climb up to as high as third, assuming the other results are in their favour.

Defence

Jack Butland had a tough time in Norway between the sticks, but he is expected to retain his ‘number 1’ status ahead of Liam Kelly.

The Light Blues have ample options across the backline, but none of them have been consistent enough in their respective roles. Rohl dropped Derek Cornelius in favour of Nasser Djiga, but the Canadian centre-half should be restored in the heart of the backline alongside John Souttar. Skipper James Tavernier must keep his place on the right. Also, the pace and marauding runs of Jayden Meghoma must be utilised from the left-hand side of Rangers’ ‘back four’ formation. Besides Djiga, Max Aarons and Manny Fernandez would be there among substitutes to challenge and cover the first-team defenders.

Midfield

A ‘double pivot’ is incomplete without Nicolas Raskin, who continues to be the only bright spark in the middle of the park. Mohamed Diomande is sidelined with a minor knock, and the gaffer should opt for Connor Barron for his agility and work rate ahead of Joe Rothwell.

Despite failing to deliver in his homeland, Thelo Aasgaard must be handed a run of games to attune to the grind and demands of Scottish football. The midfield attacker netted against Dundee United in their last league game, and he should offer his creative spark once again to claim their first home win of the 2025-26 Scottish Premiership campaign.

Djeidi Gassama has cemented his place down the left since his summer switch from Sheffield Wednesday, and the former Owls boss would relish the reunion, as he helped him grow south of the border. Mikey Moore deserves a nod on the right, with Oliver Antman failing to leave an impact as a wide forward. The Finnish ace, along with Danilo and Findlay Curtis, could be brought at some point to add more flair from the flanks.

Attack

Youssef Chermiti failed again on Thursday night, and the manager must bring Bojan Miovski back to the starting XI for his reputation in Scottish football.
