Barcelona Are In The Running To Land This Ligue 1 Winger: What Will He Add To Flick’s Team?

In a recent report, Fichajes mentioned that Barcelona are in the running to land Olympique Marseille winger Mason Greenwood. It is understood that the Catalan club would have to rival Atletico Madrid, Tottenham Hotspur, Inter Milan and Al-Hilal in the race to sign the English wide player next year.

Greenwood’s Decent Form In Ligue 1

Greenwood has enjoyed a rich vein of form at Marseille in this campaign so far as he has been responsible for producing a run of eye-catching performances for them in the final third. The English talent has banged in eight goals and grabbed four assists in 12 matches for the French club this season across various competitions.

The 24-year-old has proven himself to be a reliable performer on the offensive end of the field based on his average of 3.37 shots per 90 minutes in Ligue 1. He has kept 37.5% of his shots on target. Greenwood has also been careful when interchanging possession with his teammates after completing 78.6% of his attempted passes in the French first division (stats via fbref.com).

His current contract at the French club will run out in the summer of 2029, which could make it difficult for Barcelona to land him on a cut-price deal next year.

What Will Greenwood Add To Barcelona Boss Hansi Flick’s Team?

Greenwood is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make a few driving runs with it out in the wide areas. He has got the vision to cut open the opposition defence with a killer pass in the final third and can shoot the ball with venom from long range.

The English sensation mainly plays as a right-sided wide player but can also function as a centre-forward if required. He is already quite familiar with La Liga from his loan spell at Getafe and won’t take much time to adjust to life at the Catalan club.

We can expect Greenwood to add more pace and goals to Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick’s frontline. He has what it takes to fight for regular first-team football at the Nou Camp.

At 24, Greenwood has his best years ahead of him, which makes him a worthy target for the Catalan giants to consider next year.
