According to French outlets Foot Sur 7 and Pierrot Le Foot, via Sport Witness, West Ham United are currently leading the race to sign Lille midfielder Angel Gomes. The player will become a free agent next summer and is on the radar of multiple clubs.
Angel Gomes has rejuvenated his career
Angel Gomes came through Manchester United academy but failed to establish himself there. Hence, he moved to Lille in the summer of 2020 in hopes of getting a new beginning. The move has helped him to reignite his career and also get an opportunity in the national side.

Gomes has been doing decently well in the ongoing campaign so far. He has contributed two goals and an assist in 20 games. He is averaging 0.5 shots, 0.9 key passes, and 0.3 dribbles per game (stats via whoscored).
The English midfielder is versatile to don different roles in the middle of the park. He is press resistant, maintains his composure, and has good vision. He can provide line-breaking passes and doesn’t shy away from sending long balls.
Angel Gomes is keen on a Premier League move
West Ham United are in talks and leading the race for Angel Gomes. It’s understandable considering uncertainty over the long-term future of Lucas Paqueta. Moreover, Guido Rodriguez is also expected to depart following the conclussion of the season.
The Hammers want to strengthen their midfield with the arrival of Gomes. The player has been consistent over the past few months and has done well. He can provide a lot of value and versatility in the Hammers’ squad.
Though Lille want to hold onto their performing asset, it’s now evident that the 24-year-old has made up his mind to switch to the Premier League. Apart from West Ham United, the likes of Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are also marking their presence in the race.
