As reported by TBR Football, Chelsea are highly interested in signing Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher next summer. Enzo Maresca has had enough of Robert Sanchez and he wants to bring a change between the sticks next season.
Caoimhín Kelleher is a capable goalkeeper
Caoimhín Kelleher came through the Liverpool academy and made his competitive debut in 2019. Since then, he has climbed up the ladders pretty fast. He has already proved himself as a worthy goalkeeper, capable of representing a big club.
Kelleher has been on and off the initial team sheet this season. He has featured for 1530 minutes so far, distributed across 17 games. In those many opportunities, he has managed to keep eight clean sheets while conceding 15 goals.
The Irish shot-stopper is a proactive keeper who quickly comes out of his line to cut down the angles. He has quick reflexes and strong hands to block shots. He keeps his calm under pressure situations and has good penalty-saving abilities.
Robert Sanchez has failed to impress
Chelsea has Robert Sanchez as their primary goalkeeper but his performances have been debatable so far. He hasn’t flourished between the sticks and has messed up on multiple occasions. It’s evident that the club needs a better option if they wish to compete for prestigious titles.
As per the latest reports, Enzo Maresca has set his eyes on Liverpool’s Caoimhín Kelleher. The Irish shot-stopper is still very much the second choice behind Alisson Becker. The arrival of Giorgi Mamardashvili next season could make things even worse for him.
Hence, Kelleher wouldn’t mind leaving Anfield given he gets a guaranteed start at the Stamford Bridge. Even Liverpool shouldn’t mind cashing on the goalkeeper should Chelsea offer a reasonable transfer price. It will be interesting to see how this chapter unfolds in the coming weeks.
