Manchester United Register Surprise Interest In Their Former Player: Good Pick?

According to GiveMeSport, Manchester United recently sent their scouts to watch Alvaro Fernandez in action against Bologna in the Champions League. Impressed by his display, the English club might sign him back from Benfica in the winter window.

Álvaro Carreras has finally settled down

Álvaro Carreras came through the Real Madrid academy before moving to Manchester United in search of game-time. He failed to establish himself there and finally made a switch to Benfica in the January window this year. Since then, he has adapted well and is doing decently well.

Carreras has already netted two goals and provided as many assists in 21 games so far. He is averaging 2.1 tackles, 1.4 interceptions, and 1.7 clearances per game (stats via whoscored).

The ex-Manchester United player is known for his pace and dribbling skills. He is equally good in the defensive and attacking phases of the game. With his solid defending and creative traits up front, he provides a lot to the team.

Manchester United need a left-back

The injury to Luke Shaw has forced Manchester United to search for a left-back in the market. Ruben Amorim has been using Diogo Dalot at the concerned position despite the player referring to his natural right-back spot. Hence, the club need to solve this issue.

The Red Devils’ trick of sending their scouts to watch Álvaro Carreras says a lot. As the scouts are impressed with the youngster, the management might consider bringing him in the January transfer window. The player would require no time to settle down as he has been part of the club earlier.

Carreras has a £42 million release clause at Benfica but Manchester United can get him for just £16.5 million. It is possible because of the buy-back clause that the English giant integrated into the contract while offloading the youngster.
