The Spanish outlet Fichaes reports that Manchester City of the Premier League are interested in signing the Barcelona attacking midfielder, Dani Olmo, in the winter transfer window in January 2025. The Catalan club are facing registration issues with the Spanish midfielder currently for the second half of the season.
Barcelona are facing registration issues with Dani Olmo
Olmo signed for Barcelona in the summer transfer window of 2024 on a six-year deal. He started very well under Barca’s new manager, Hansi Flick, and was sensational in the initial matches. However, as the season has progressed, his form has gone downhill, resulting in him getting replaced from the starting lineup in a few matches.
Barca, just like the last few seasons, were facing trouble registering him with La Liga due to FFP limitations at the start of the season. Some reports stated that Olmo was registered in place of the injured Andreas Christensen and Ronald Araujo. Barcelona now have a deadline of December 31 to re-register Olmo as Christensen and Araujo are back from their respective injuries. If they can’t register him, then the player has the option of leaving for a new club as a free agent.
Olmo has a sensational profile. He combines technical finesse with a sharp tactical mind. Olmo is excellent at dribbling and has great vision on the pitch. Olmo is also a versatile player and can play in various positions on the field, starting from an attacking midfielder to a winger. He has a great innate ability to play in between the lines and work in tight spaces. The Spaniard has played 15 matches across competitions so far this season and has scored six goals with one assist.
Given Barca’s issues with re-registering Olmo before the deadline, many clubs, with the likes of Manchester City, have been interested in the player. Olmo’s agent has also been in conversation with several clubs, but the Spanish player wants to stay at the Catalan club.
Does Olmo want to leave Barca?
The manager, Pep Guardiola, is a fan of the player and Olmo can definitely fit his tactical system. The club does not have any issues paying Olmo a good amount of wages. However, Olmo needs to give his consent for the move to materialise. The Spaniard wants to continue his career in the Catalan capital and wants Barcelona to find a way of registering him before the deadline. He is happy with his tenure in the club and wants to continue wearing the Blaugrana jersey.
