In a recent report, journalist Ben Jacobs stated that West Ham United have identified Lille forward Jonathan David as a target. It has been claimed that the Hammers are eyeing a move to bring the Canadian striker to the London Stadium next year.
David’s Decent Record In French Football This Season
The 24-year-old has enjoyed a great run of form at the French club during this campaign after he put in a series of solid performances as the focal point of their attack. David has banged in 11 goals and grabbed two assists in 16 matches for Lille this season across various competitions.
The Canada international has led the line well for the French outfit and deserves credit for averaging 2.1 shots, 0.6 key passes and 0.7 dribbles per 90 minutes in Ligue 1. He has even distributed the ball well based on his pass success rate of 79.9% in the French top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current deal at Lille will run out at the end of this campaign which could give West Ham a chance to sign him on a cut-price deal this January or on a free transfer next summer.
Will David Be A Good Option For West Ham United Boss Julen Lopetegui?
David excels at finding some space for himself to get some strikes in at goal. He has got the eye to play a few decisive passes in the final third and is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet.
However, the Canadian forward might need some time to adapt to the physical nature and high intensity of the Premier League if the Hammers manage to bring him on board next year.
David would enhance the quality of West Ham head coach Julen Lopetegui’s attack. He has what it takes to fight for a regular first-team spot at the London Stadium in the coming years.
David is more than capable of challenging Michail Antonio for a regular starting place at the East London club. At 24, the future looks quite promising for David which makes him a great option for the Hammers to pursue in the long run. However, Lopetegui has to be patient with his progress before he can get the best out of him at West Ham.
