In a recent print edition, The Sunday People (13 October, Page 60) stated that West Ham United are preparing to move in for Atletico Madrid striker Alexander Sorloth. It has been mentioned that the Hammers are ready to make a move for the Norwegian forward next year.
Sorloth’s Decent Run Of Form In La Liga
The 28-year-old has managed to prove his worth at times for the Spanish giants during this campaign as he has produced a few impressive displays for them in the final third. Sorloth has played in 11 matches for Atletico Madrid this season, netting one goal and earning a couple of assists across multiple competitions.
The Norwegian attacker has caught the eye with his offensive contributions for Diego Simeone’s team based on his average of 1.9 shots and 0.8 key passes per game in La Liga football. However, he has been untidy when distributing the ball deep inside the opposition half, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 65.2% in the Spanish top tier (stats via whoscored).
Sorloth’s current contract at the Madrid club will expire in the summer of 2028. Hence, West Ham would have to make a big offer if they want to sign him next year.
Is Sorloth A Good Option For West Ham United Boss Julen Lopetegui?
Sorloth can find some space for himself to get some shots in at goal. He has got the eye to create the odd chance for his teammates in the opponent’s half and is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet.
However, the Norwegian talent has to find a way to improve his link-up play on the offensive end of the pitch. Still, there is no denying that West Ham can use someone with his skill set next year.
We can expect Sorloth to add more quality and depth to Julen Lopetegui’s attack. He is good enough to compete for a regular starting place at the East London club in the coming years.
At 28, Sorloth is playing in his prime which makes him a decent option for the Hammers to pursue next year. He has already got some Premier League experience under his belt and won’t take much time to settle into life in England.
