In a recent report, journalist Pete O’Rourke offered an update on the future of West Ham United prospect Finlay Herrick. It has been revealed that the Hammers are in talks to tie the English goalkeeper down to a new contract.
Herrick’s Rapid Rise In English Football
Herrick has come through the youth ranks of West Ham and has done well to establish himself as a reliable performer for their Under-21 team. The English talent has caught the eye with his performances for the Hammers’ U-21 side this season after conceding six goals and keeping three clean sheets in six matches for them in multiple competitions.
The 18-year-old has managed to shine at times in the youth levels of English football and is currently amongst the best young keepers in the country. Therefore, it makes sense for the East London club to try and tie him down to a new, long-term deal soon.
However, Herrick is still quite inexperienced at the highest level and would need time before he is ready for top-flight football. Still, there is no denying that he is destined to have a bright future in English football.
West Ham United Are In Talks With Herrick Over A New Contract: Good Move For Both Parties?
Herrick can be a safe pair of hands in between the sticks when he is playing with confidence on the field. He is a solid handler of the ball and can use his quick reflexes to make a few important saves at the back.
Standing at 1.84m, the English keeper is a towering presence inside his penalty area. However, as mentioned earlier, he is still quite raw and would need time to prove his worth at the highest level.
At 18, Herrick has the potential to be a future star in English football. Thus, it seems like a good move for both the gifted youngster and the East London club to extend their time together for the long run.
With all things considered, West Ham head coach Julen Lopetegui would be wise to tie Herrick down to a new contract as he has what it takes to be a future starter at the London Stadium.
