In a recent edition of the Bayern Insider, journalist Christian Falk offered an update on Newcastle United and their pursuit of Bayern Munich ace Leroy Sane. Falk said,
“Newcastle United are not letting up on Leroy Sane, is that true or not true? That’s true. We were the first to mention it here, Newcastle’s interest in Leroy Sane, it will be difficult to finance because Bayern would have to put a really bad offer on the table. He earns €20m-a-season, estimated of course.”
Sane’s Form In German Football This Season
Sane has struggled to earn regular game time at the Bavarian club during this campaign but has managed to catch the eye at times for them in the final third. The Germany international has featured in four matches for Bayern this season, scoring one goal in the process across all fronts.
The 28-year-old has been a good performer off the bench as he is averaging 1.0 shots, 1.0 key passes and 0.5 dribbles per game in the Bundesliga. He has even distributed the ball accurately in the opponent’s half after making 75% of his attempted passes in the top tier of German football (stats via whoscored).
Is Sane A Good Option For Newcastle United?
Sane has got the pace to cause a lot of headaches for his marker out on the flanks. He can make a few driving runs with the ball in and around the opponent’s half and has got the vision to engineer a few promising chances for his teammates in the final third.
The German wing wizard can strike the ball with power and precision from long range and can contribute by scoring and creating his fair share of goals from the wide areas. He is primarily a right-winger but can also serve as a left-sided wide player or play in the number ten position if needed.
Sane has already got some Premier League experience from his time at Manchester City and won’t take much time to settle into life at Newcastle if Eddie Howe can devise a way to land him next year.
Sane would add plenty of firepower to the Tyneside club‘s attack. He might even help the Magpies compete for a top-four spot in the Premier League. Thus, the German talent would be a great option for Newcastle to pursue in 2025.
