In a recent report, Fiorentina News offered an update on Aston Villa and their pursuit of Fiorentina full-back Michael Kayode. It is uncertain whether the Villans will return for the Italian talent next year after failing to land him last summer.
Kayode’s Form In Italian Football This Season
Kayode has found game time hard to come by at the Italian club and has managed to shine at times for them on the right flank. The 20-year-old has just featured in five matches for Fiorentina this season across multiple competitions.
The Italian full-back has caught the eye at times for his current employers based on his average of 0.5 tackles, 1.5 clearances and 1.5 dribbles per 90 minutes in Serie A. However, he has lacked quality when distributing the ball from the right wing, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 71.4% in the Italian top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current deal at the Italian club will expire in the summer of 2028, so it won’t be easy for the Villans to sign him on a cut-price deal next year.
Should Aston Villa Boss Unai Emery Snap Kayode Up?
Kayode is a good tackler of the ball and doesn’t hesitate to put his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the front foot. He can even make a few dangerous runs with the ball out on the flanks.
The Italian sensation is primarily a right-back but can also function as a left-back or as a right-sided wide player if asked to do so. However, he is still quite inexperienced at the highest level and would need time to adapt to life in English football if the Villans decide to go back for him next year.
Kayode would add more quality to Aston Villa head coach Unai Emery’s defence. At 20, he has the potential to be a future star in English football as long as he continues to develop with each year. Thus, it makes sense for the Villans to try and attempt to land him once again in 2025.
Kayode needs regular first-team chances at the moment, so Emery should only focus on snapping him up if he is willing to play him regularly at Villa Park in the future.
