In a recent report, journalist Graeme Bailey mentioned that Tottenham Hotspur wanted to sign AS Roma forward Artem Dovbyk last summer. It has been stated that Spurs were among the clubs hoping to sign the Ukrainian talent in last summer’s transfer window.
Dovbyk’s Impressive Form In Italian Football
Dovbyk has made an excellent start to this Serie A campaign as he has been responsible for putting in a string of productive displays for Roma in front of the opponent’s goal. The 27-year-old has netted eight goals and grabbed two assists in 18 matches for the Italian club this season across all competitions.
The Ukrainian striker has given a good account of himself in the final third based on his average of 2.7 shots, 0.7 key passes and 0.6 dribbles per 90 minutes in Serie A. He has even distributed the ball relatively well after completing 75.7% of his attempted passes in the Italian top tier (stats via whoscored).
Dovbyk is under contract at the Italian club until the summer of 2029 which could make it tough for the North London club to sign him on a cut-price deal next year.
Should Tottenham Hotspur Boss Ange Postecoglu Go Back For Dovbyk?
Dovbyk is proficient at creating some space for himself to get a few strikes in at goal. He has got the eye to play some decisive passes in the opponent’s half and is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet. Standing at 1.89m, Dovbyk is a strong presence in the air as well.
The Ukraine international has begun to prove his worth as a prolific goal-getter in Italian football. However, the jury is still out on whether he can cope with the high intensity of the Premier League if Spurs manage to bring him on board.
Dovbyk would enhance the quality of Tottenham head coach Ange Postecoglu’s attack. He is good enough to offer some healthy competition for Dominic Solanke at the North London club in the coming seasons.
At 27, Dovbyk is about to enter his prime which makes him a worthy target for Tottenham to consider in 2025. All in all, Postecoglu should focus on going back for him this January or next summer.
