In a recent report, Fichajes claimed that Tottenham Hotspur have set their sights on Ipswich Town ace Liam Delap. It has been stated that Spurs are eyeing a move to bring the English striker to North London next year.
Delap’s Impressive Form In The Premier League This Season
Delap has made a great start to this Premier League campaign as he has managed to put in a few productive displays for Ipswich in the final third. The 21-year-old has scored four goals in eight appearances for his current employers this season across various competitions.
The 21-year-old has proven his worth in front of the opponent’s goal by averaging 1.6 shots, 0.7 key passes and 0.7 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. However, he has lacked quality when distributing the ball in the final third after making just 54.5% of his attempted passes in the English first division (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Mancunian club will run out in the summer of 2029 which could make it difficult for Spurs to sign him on a cut-price deal next year.
Should Tottenham Hotspur Boss Ange Postecoglu Recruit Delap?
Delap can create some space for himself to get a few strikes in at goal. He has proven himself to be a decent finisher in the final third and can engineer the odd chance for his teammates up top.
The English talent is also quite clever with his movements in and around the opponent’s penalty area. He can use his strong 1.86m frame to dominate the opposition defenders in the air but needs to find a way to improve his link-up play on the defensive end of the field.
We can expect Delap to bring more goals to Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglu’s frontline. He is good enough to challenge Dominic Solanke for a regular first-team spot at the North London club in the coming years.
At 21, the future looks quite promising for Delap, so Spurs would do well to recruit him this January or next summer. He already knows the Premier League well and won’t take much time to settle into life at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium if Postecoglu manages to snap him up in 2025.
