In a recent report, journalist Steve Kay claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are keeping tabs on Espanyol winger Javi Puado. It has been stated that Spurs are keeping a keen eye on the Spanish wide player next year.
Puado’s Impressive Form In La Liga
Puado has put in a few productive displays as the focal point of Espanyol’s attack during this campaign. The 26-year-old scored three goals in eight matches for the Spanish outfit this season across all fronts.
The Spanish wing wizard has proven his worth in the opponent’s half as he is averaging 2.3 shots, 0.8 key passes and 0.4 dribbles per game in La Liga. He has been tidy when distributing the ball on the offensive end of the field based on his pass success rate of 80.7% in the top tier of Spanish football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Spanish club will expire at the end of this campaign. Hence, it makes sense for Spurs to try and sign him on a cut-price deal this January or on a free transfer next summer.
Should Tottenham Hotspur Boss Ange Postecoglu Snap Puado Up?
Puado can strike the ball with power and precision from long range. He has got the vision to create a few decent chances for his teammates from the wide areas. The Spanish talent is a tidy passer of the ball as well. He is primarily a left-winger but can also operate as a right-sided wide player or as a striker down the middle if required.
Puado would bring more firepower to Tottenham head coach Ange Postecoglu’s frontline. He is good enough to compete for a regular first-team spot at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the coming years.
At 26, Puado has his best years ahead of him which makes him a worthy target for Spurs to pursue in 2025. He is on an expiring contract at Espanyol right now, so Tottenham could potentially land him on a free transfer at the end of this campaign.
However, there are some question marks over whether Puado would be able to compete with the physical side and high intensity of the Premier League. Still, Tottenham should focus on snapping him up soon.
