Manchester City entertained Southampton at the Etihad Stadium earlier today as they hoped to secure a good result at home in the Premier League. The Mancunian club made a great start to the contest as they scored the opening goal in the fifth minute thanks to Erling Haaland’s finish. Pep Guardiola‘s men controlled the game well in the first half and went into the half-time break 1-0 up on the scoreline.
Man City sat on their slender lead well in the second 45 minutes and managed to earn a narrow 1-0 win at the Etihad.

The Brazilian keeper made a couple of solid saves during the game and earned an easy clean sheet at home.

He made a couple of important clearances at the back but offered very little going forward.

Akanji dealt with the danger when needed and did enough to keep a clean sheet this afternoon.
CB: Ruben Dias – 7/10
He performed his defensive duties well and was a threat at the other end of the field as well.
LB: Josko Gvardiol – 7.5/10
Gvardiol kept things solid defensively and managed to engineer some decent chances for his teammates up top.
CDM: Mateo Kovacic – 7/10
He anchored the midfield with conviction and was not shy of having a strike at goal.
RW: Savio – 8/10
Savio was a constant menace in the final third and did everything but score today.
CM: Phil Foden – 7.5/10
Foden orchestrated a handful of clear-cut chances for others around him in the Southampton half.
CM: Bernardo Silva – 7/10
He caught the eye at times but didn’t do enough to register a goal.
LW: Matheus Nunes – 7.5/10
Nunes caused some headaches for the opposition defenders and has got an assist to show for his efforts.
ST: Erling Haaland – 7/10
He was not afraid to have a strike at goal and ended up scoring the only goal of the game in the fifth minute.
