In a recent report, Fichajes claimed that Real Madrid have identified Red Bull Leipzig defender Catello Lukeba as a target. It has been stated that Los Blancos are eyeing a move to acquire the services of the French centre-back next year.
Lukeba’s Impressive Form In German Football
Lukeba has enjoyed a good run of form at the German club during this campaign as he has put in a string of solid displays for them on the defensive end of the field. The 21-year-old has featured in eight matches for RB Leipzig this season on all fronts.
The French talent has been a decent performer when defending inside his half based on his average of 1.6 tackles, 0.6 interceptions and 2.8 clearances per 90 minutes in the Bundesliga. He was even accurate when distributing the ball from the back after making 91.5% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Red Bull Arena will run out in the summer of 2028 which could make it difficult for Real Madrid to sign him on the cheap next year.
What Will Lukeba Add To Real Madrid Boss Carlo Ancelotti’s Side?
Lukeba is a solid tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to earn the ball back for his team inside his half. He usually clears the danger when the opposition are on the front foot.
The French centre-back is even proficient at playing his way out from the back. Standing at 1.84m, Lukeba can be a strong presence in the air as well. However, only time will tell whether he can make a smooth transition to life in Spanish football if Real Madrid manage to bring him on board next year.
We can expect Lukeba to add more bite and steel to Los Blancos boss Carlo Ancelotti’s defence. He is good enough to compete for a regular first-team spot at the Madrid club in the coming years.
At 21, Lukeba has the potential to be a future star in European football as long as he continues to improve with each season. Therefore, Ancelotti would be wise to move in for him this January or at the end of this campaign as he could prove to be a great signing for Real Madrid in the long run.
