Speaking on Cadena COPE ‘s Tiempo de Juego programme (via Fichajes), journalist Paco González mentioned that Real Madrid have set their sights on Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams. It has been stated that Los Blancos could move in for the Spain international next year.
Williams’ Impressive Form In La Liga
The 22-year-old has made a decent start to this campaign as he has managed to put in a few impressive displays for the Spanish club in the final third. Williams has banged in one goal and grabbed a couple of assists in ten matches for Athletic Bilbao this season across all fronts.
The Spanish talent has been a consistent performer on the left wing based on his average of 1.8 shots, 1.3 key passes and 2.0 dribbles per 90 minutes in La Liga. He has even distributed the ball relatively well after making 78.6% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Spanish club will run out in the summer of 2027 which could make it difficult for Los Blancos to sign him on the cheap next year.
Should Real Madrid Boss Carlo Ancelotti Snap Williams Up?
Williams is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make a few driving runs with it out on the flanks. He has got the eye to play some decisive passes on the offensive end of the field and can strike the ball with venom from long range.
However, the Spanish sensation has to find a way to improve his link-up play in the opposition half. We can expect him to bring more firepower to Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti’s frontline.
Williams has already got some valuable experience in La Liga under his belt and won’t take much time to adjust to life at the Madrid club if Ancelotti can devise a way to get him on board in 2025.
At 22, the future looks quite bright for Williams as long as he continues to improve his numbers in the coming years. Therefore, Los Blancos would be wise to go all out to snap him up this January or at the end of this campaign.
