In a recent report, AS claimed that Real Madrid have set their sights on Bayer 04 Leverkusen talent Florian Wirtz. It has been mentioned that Los Blancos are eyeing a move to bring the German attacker to the Spanish capital next year.
Wirtz’s Impressive Form In German Football
Wirtz has enjoyed a good run of form at the Bundesliga club during this campaign as he has produced a handful of productive displays for them in the final third. The 21-year-old has featured in ten matches for Bayer Leverkusen this season, banging in six times and earning one assist across various competitions.
The German talent has proven his worth in the opposition half by averaging 3.5 shots, 3.2 key passes and 3.0 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Bundesliga. He has even been accurate when distributing the ball after making 83.6% of his attempted passes in the German top-flight (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the German club will expire in the summer of 2027 which could make it tough for Los Blancos to sign him on the cheap next year.
Should Real Madrid Boss Carlo Ancelotti Move In For Wirtz?
Wirtz is a good dribbler with the ball and can make some dangerous runs with the ball in the final third. He has got the vision to engineer a few decent chances for others around him in the opposition half and can strike the ball with venom from long range.
The German playmaker mainly operates in the number ten position but can also function as a winger on either flank if asked to do so by his manager. However, he might need some time to adjust to life in Spanish football if Real Madrid manage to snap him up next year.
Wirtz would bring more goals and creativity to Los Blancos head coach Carlo Ancelotti’s attack. He has what it takes to compete for a regular first-team place at the Madrid club in the coming seasons. At 21, Wirtz has the potential to be a generational talent, so Ancelotti would be wise to move in for him this winter or at the end of this campaign.
