In a recent report, The Athletic mentioned that Real Madrid are keeping a keen eye on Palmeiras defender Vitor Reis. It has been claimed that Los Blancos would have to compete with Arsenal, Barcelona, Chelsea and Liverpool in the race to sign the Brazilian whizkid.
Reis’ Impressive Rise In Brazilian Football
The 18-year-old has come through the youth ranks of Palmeiras and has already established himself as a key member of their first team. Reis has made 15 senior appearances for the Brazilian club thus far, finding the back of the net twice across various competitions.
The Brazilian talent was a rock at the back for Palmeiras as he averaged 1.5 tackles, 0.5 interceptions and 3.4 clearances per 90 minutes in the Brasileirao. He has even been careful when distributing the ball from inside his half after completing 91.9% of his attempted passes in the Brazilian first division (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Palmeiras will run out at the end of 2028, so Los Blancos would have to launch a big offer if they are serious about winning the race for his services.
Real Madrid Are Keeping A Keen Eye On Reis: Is He A Star In The Making?
Reis is a good tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to make some timely interceptions for his team on the defensive third of the pitch. He usually clears the danger when the opposition are on the offensive.
Standing at 1.86m, the Brazilian talent is a strong presence in the air as well. He is even proficient at playing his way out from the back. However, he is still quite raw and would need time to prove his worth in La Liga if Real Madrid decide to move in for him this January or next summer.
Reis is already good enough to serve as a useful rotational piece in Carlo Ancelotti’s match-day squad. At 18, he has the ceiling to be a world-class player in his position someday. Therefore, Los Blancos would be wise to go all out to get him on board soon.
With all things considered, Reis is undoubtedly a star in the making and could prove to be a great signing for the Madrid club in the long run.
