Newcastle United will entertain Chelsea at St. James’ Park this Wednesday night as they focus on securing a win in the EFL Cup. The Magpies suffered a narrow 2-1 loss away at Chelsea recently, so they would be eager to right the wrongs in this midweek cup game.
Eddie Howe will set his players up in a 4-3-3 formation and is expected to make a lot of changes to his first team for this clash. William Osula, Jacob Murphy and Emil Krafth could get a chance to play from the start of this game.
4-3-3 Newcastle United Predicted Lineup To Face Chelsea
Defence
Odysseas Vlachodimos will play in goal for the Magpies as he looks to keep things solid during the 90 minutes. Fabian Schar will operate alongside Emil Krath at the heart of Howe’s defence. Their main focus would be to keep the Chelsea attackers quiet this Wednesday night.
Tino Livramento will operate as the right-back while Lloyd Kelly looks to impress on the other flank as the left-back. Both of them will get the license to get forward and express themselves in the Chelsea half.
Dan Burn will be rested on the bench as he offers cover for the defensive positions.
Midfield
Sandro Tonali, Joe Willock and Sean Longstaff will make up Newcastle’s midfield as they try to make life difficult for the opposition at the centre of the park. All three of them need to be at their best if the Magpies are to come out on top in this EFL Cup game.
Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton will have to settle for a spot on the bench as they wait for their chance to influence the game in the second 45 minutes if Howe opts to call upon their services.
Attack
William Osula will try to catch the eye on the left flank while Jacob Murphy hopes to make a difference as the right-sided wide player. Alexander Isak will spearhead Newcastle’s attack up top. He managed to score against Chelsea last weekend and would hope to do the same in midweek.
Harvey Barnes and Miguel Almiron will be available for selection on the bench and might come on to make an impact in the latter stages of this cup game if Newcastle are in need of a goal by then.
