In a recent report, The Athletic mentioned that Newcastle United remain keen on recruiting Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi. It has been claimed that the Magpies are eyeing a move to secure the services of the English centre-back next year.
Guehi’s Impressive Form In The Premier League
Guehi is having a solid campaign a the London club after he produced a series of impressive displays for them on the defensive end of the field. The English talent has been involved in nine matches for Crystal Palace this season, netting one goal in multiple competitions.
The 24-year-old was a rock at the back based on his average of 0.9 tackles, 0.7 interceptions and 6.6 clearances per game in the Premier League. He was even accurate when distributing the ball from inside his half as he has completed 85.7% of his attempted passes in the English top flight (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the London club will expire in the summer of 2026 which could make it tough for the Magpies to sign him on the cheap next year.
Is Guehi A Good Fit For Newcastle United Boss Eddie Howe?
Guehi is a solid tackler of the ball and can read the danger well to secure the ball back for his side on the defensive third of the pitch. He usually puts his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the offensive and can play his way out from the back.
The English sensation has proven himself to be a consistent performer in the Premier League. Hence, he would be a great fit for Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe’s needs next year.
Guehi would inject more bite and steel into the Tyneside club‘s backline. He has what it takes to help the Magpies compete for a top-four place in the Premier League over the next few years.
At 24, Guehi will only get better with each season, so Howe should focus on going all out to lure him to St. James’ Park in the January transfer window or at the end of this campaign. However, Guehi is still under a long-term contract at Selhurst Park, so Newcastle would have to make a big offer if they are serious about recruiting him in 2025.
