In a recent interview with Football Insider, former Premier League scout Mick Brown revealed that Newcastle United could launch a move for Bayern Munich star Leroy Sane. Brown said,
“Given their financial situation as it has been, they’ll be pushing to get this one over the line.
“I’ve often wondered why he left City, to be honest, and I know clubs have been tracking him since then.
“I’m surprised nobody here took him in the first place before he went to Bayern Munich, but there’s definitely interest.
“He’s 28 now and he still looks the type of player that has something to offer at the top level.
“I’ve heard Newcastle are among those clubs who will be looking to bring him in, and I’d be surprised if they didn’t at least try to get it done.
“Given his availability on a free, they’ll be looking to get him in with no outgoing fee which would be perfect for their finances.”
Sane’s Recent Form In German Football
Sane has made a slow start to this campaign but has managed to shine at times in the opposition half. The 28-year-old has scored one goal in four matches for the Bavarian giants this season across multiple competitions.
The German talent has seen most of his game time come as a substitute but has done well to average 1.0 shots, 1.0 key passes and 0.5 dribbles per game in the Bundesliga. He has even distributed possession relatively well after completing 75% of his attempted passes in the German top flight (stats via whoscored).
Should Newcastle United Boss Eddie Howe Snap Sane Up?
Sane is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet and can use his quickness to cause a lot of problems for his marker out in the wide areas. He can strike the ball with power from long range and has got the vision to create some inviting chances for others around him in the final third.
The German talent is primarily a right-winger but can also operate as a left-sided wide player or as an attacking midfielder if told to do so by his manager. Hence, he would be a dream choice for the Magpies to consider next year.
Sane would undeniably add more firepower to Newcastle boss Eddie Howe’s frontline. He has what it takes to help the Magpies challenge for a top-four spot in the Premier League next season.
